Protected areas that began as cassava and papaya plantations or pastures are now secondary forests with trails that run along the river. These areas are home to the two sloth species found in Costa Rica, as well as colorful birds like toucans, jacamars, and motmots, and large mammals such as howler monkeys. After the hike, enjoy a refreshing fruit snack.
